LES SARA

Plays:  Electric Bass, Guitar

Les Sara is one of our private guitar teachers at the Somerville School of Music. He has been a part of the school for 15 years.

Les was a student of the Somerville High School class of 1988. From there he moved on to be a Music Education and Jazz Performance Major at Rutgers. He has also a New Jersey Pesticide License and works as an exterminator during the day.


Les has an Associate of Arts degree in Music. He was also the winner of the Louis Armstrong High School Jazz Award in 1988 and the winner of 1992 RVCC Achievement In Music Award. He has also played guitar on "Hostage Heart" by Philosophy 101 in 1994. Les also played Bass for "The Girls Next Door" performed at Continental Airlines Arena in 2000. Les helped manage Gorny's Music Shop in 1996-2002.


Les began his lessons in 5th grade, but got heavily involved with it in 7th grade when he started with John Harrity. He played through high school and college in many different Jazz groups. Les has also been a part of some blues, rock and cover band groups. Currently he plays for the cover band Squad 5.


Last but not least, in his capacity as electric bassist, Les has lent generous support to The Somerset Jazz Consortium in various jam sessions and events.

Les is a father of his one daughter, Samantha.
