STEVE RYDEN
Plays: Tenor Sax, Alto Sax, Soprano Sax
Steve Ryden started playing clarinet in
1958 and saxophones in 1961 in the Hunterdon County New Jersey school system including private lessons and summer music schools.
During his high school years, Steve studied with Gerry Nowak, Bill Holcombe and other famous local music educators, and
performed in the stage band and several local R&B, Rock & Roll, and jazz combos. He learned jazz standards from child
prodigy Danny Federici, keyboardist of the E Street Band, and played his first professional gig with Danny in 1962.
Since then, Steve has performed professionally in concerts, clubs and private events with numerous Jazz, Rock & Roll,
R&B and ‘general business" wedding groups playing for weddings and parties.
Because of his stage
presence, Steve has earned the name "Saxy Man" and most recently was featured with DooWop groups Class of ’57,
Captain Hawker and the All-Stars, and Class The Girls Next Door.
On the jazz scene, Steve has been a regular member
of the Somerset Jazz Consortium since 2004. He has lived in New Jersey most of his life and playing classic jazz standards
for over 45 years.
Steve has earned a reputation as a versatile reed man on the saxophone family.
