KEN FINK

Plays:  Tenor, Alto & Soprano Saxes

Ken started on sax early on, but was actually a bassoon major at college and at the Mannes School of Music.

He studied under Sandy Sharoff and Bill Polisi, two of the great bassoonists of the 20 Century. But his love of the saxophone was too strong, and he left Mannes to tour with the Gary Toms Empire, a successful R&B act in the late ‘70s with some hits out at the time. Ken has stayed true to his R&B roots, touring as far away as Japan and as locally as the South’s Chitlin’ Crcuit.

He was also been part of many bands producing some great original music.

In 2003, Ken took over the father/son jazz band that was part of the New Jersey Workshop for the Arts (NJWA) in Westfield, NJ, and transformed it into a professional jazz band.

The Full Count Big Band plays about 25 times a year and has played everything from street fairs and private parties to NJPAC. He decided to get serious about playing bebop and standards the summer of 2007, so here he is, a proud member of the Somerset Jazz Consortium.
