Andrew Lohse
Plays: Upright Bass, Drums
Defined by his feel and swing ethos, acoustic bassist Andrew Lohse was brought up on the instrument
by Ed Howard, the respected New York and International bassist known for his work with Roy Haynes, Shirley Horn, and others.
Andrew has studied at Manhattan School of Music Pre-College, where he majored in jazz bass, and SUNY Purchase Jazz Institute
where he had the privilege of learning from Todd Coolman, stalwart jazz educator and performer.
Also, Andrew has been a member of the Somerset Jazz Consortium since June 2007 and is currently
a student and a freelance acoustic bass player in New Jersey. He is a regular participant of the jam sessions
run by the Somerset Jazz Consortium and is one of the relief bassists for the House Band. Recently, he’s
begun drumming at the same sessions.
In addition to his jazz activities, Andrew is drummer
for The Horizontals, an award-winning Rock ensemble based in Central NJ.
